Michael Messier

Founder & Principal

Michael Messier founded Blue Maple Advisors in August of 2018 with the objective of providing practical and experience-based talent and business advisory services to businesses in all industries and stages of growth.

He was formerly the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Excelitas Technologies, a privately held, $850M global leader in photonics with over 6,500 employees. At Excelitas, he was responsible for creating the company’s global human resources strategy and leading HR and business initiatives that attract, engage, retain and develop a strong global team that enables the company to achieve its growth objectives. He also led the corporate marketing, legal and compliance areas at different stages of his Excelitas tenure, leading the company to almost triple its growth in a span of nearly 8 years and a successful private equity sale/exit in 2018.

Michael has a long and accomplished HR career, with more than 30 years of experience in the high tech, software, internet, telecommunications, and electronics industries. As an innovator who has demonstrated success in aligning the mission of HR with the mission of the business, he has served in senior leadership roles such as Global Vice President, Human Resources at Starent Networks/Cisco Systems, Vice President, Human Resources at Monster Worldwide, Vice President, Human Resources at Progress Software, Vice President, Global Human Resources at Rational Software/IBM, and Vice President Global Human Resources at Open Market. Additionally, Michael has held senior level HR management and compensation positions at Pure/Atria Software, Stratus Computer, Agfa Compugraphic and Charles River Laboratories.

Michael holds an MBA from Rivier University and a Bachelor of Science degree in HR Management from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. He is a Certified PI Talent Optimization Leader, a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), a former member of the Board of Directors for the Human Resources Leadership Forum (HRLF), and a past adjunct faculty member at Bentley University.
